UNICOMM INFOGRAPHICS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS SUPPORTING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

Welcome to our series of engaging infographics, created during our dynamic online peer-coaching group meetings. From April 30 to June 4, 2024, twelve dedicated staff members from European higher education institutions (HEIs) came together to exchange ideas and best practices. Their active participation led to the development of a set of suggested valuable skills and strategies designed to enhance student engagement.

Leveraging the diverse expertise of our professionals, we have prepared three insightful infographics which can serve as a tool for higher education professionals supporting student engagement.

The first infographic offers practical strategies to create and sustain a vibrant extracurricular community. This infographic is designed like a path representing the journey of building an engaging community. By following this path, you can clearly see how each step leads to the next, ensuring a structured approach to creating a thriving extracurricular environment. Learn how to start small, go step by step, involve students, and provide diverse opportunities. Discover ways to encourage student leadership and celebrate their achievements. Get tips on maintaining the community and welcoming new members.

The second infographic reveals powerful tips on how to enhance your self-confidence and self-care to support student engagement better.
Some work can be purely conceptual, focusing on understanding your needs and prioritising progress over perfection; other strategies involve interpersonal interactions, with methods such as setting clear expectations and appreciating students’ work (without forgetting about your own work!). This infographic is designed in the shape of a head to symbolise the internal and external aspects of self-confidence and self-care. The visual representation emphasises the balance between self-reflection and interaction with others, showcasing how both the mental and the social strategies can contribute to improving engagement with students.

The third infographic highlights essential skills for the university staff wanting to support student engagement effectively. The skills are depicted as extensions of octopus arms, which symbolises the diverse and adaptable nature of these competencies. Each arm represents a different skill, showing how university staff can support students in various ways.
