If you are an active student of our university, taking part in any kind of initiatives outside of the regular academic classes, we would like to invite you to the workshop, which will help you to develop useful skills for your university activities as well as life outside the academia! It will also be a great occasion to meet other active and engaged students!

WHAT?
In this interactive workshop session on the topic of intercultural communication together we will answer the questions such as:
- How does culture influence language?
- How to navigate intercultural misunderstandings?
- How to communicate in a culturally diverse team?
- How to talk about cultures without judgment?
- What are the differences, and most of all what are similarities between your culture and other cultures?
You will also have an opportunity to get to know some of the theories from the field of intercultural communication, which are useful in navigating life, studies and work in a culturally diverse environment.

- You will develop your knowledge and skills through common activities with a diverse group of participants – a great asset to your regular academic path!
- You will meet new people – a great occasion to socialise and network with people from different countries and faculties!

Who will facilitate the workshop?
Andrea Martínez Celis
Andrea Martínez Celis is a Doctor in English linguistics, from Complutense University, and she currently works as a university lecturer at Rey Juan Carlos University, both universities in Madrid, in Spain, and collaborates as an intercultural competence trainer for Small Wide World. She carried out part of her studies in Brighton, England, and made a research stay at the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands in 2021. Andrea has worked in Turkey, living with different cultures and religions. Additionally, she is the European representative of the NGO iHelp Africa that works in the less privileged areas of Ghana, where she resided in. She has also lived in Egypt, volunteering with refugee women from Ethiopia and Sudan. She has also volunteered in the region of High Atlas of Morocco, where she lived in a Berber village. Andrea has recently participated in the Science Summit of the United Nations, in New York, talking about the importance of intercultural competence in public diplomacy and institutions.
Katarzyna Kucharska
Katarzyna Kucharska has been working for the last decade at the Volunteer Center of the University of Warsaw as a coordinator of projects focused on strengthening the multicultural potential of the university and as a trainer of intercultural skills for the Polish and international academic community. On behalf of the University of Warsaw, she coordinates international and intercultural projects focusing on enhancing the agency and sense of belonging among foreign students (for instance Multicultural Volunteering at UW and UNICOMM Project – University Community Active Participation Project).
She specializes in building bonds among groups consisting of people from different cultures. She cooperates with NGOs as well as Polish and foreign universities in the field of conducting webinars, trainings and workshops on intercultural communication in the academic environment.
A graduate of cultural studies at the University of Warsaw and the Graduate School for Social Research at Lancaster University. She studied cultural anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, and completed numerous trainings in the field of cultural animation, intercultural skills and anti-discrimination.
As a project coordinator and trainer, she works with students from almost all over the world. In her work, she uses a combination of academic knowledge, practical experience from everyday life and workshop methods designed in accordance with the needs of participants. A Board Member of SIETAR Polska and a Board of Directors Member of SIETAR Europa.
